Diversified Services commenced business in 1990 as an owner operator business with two employees and a Holden ute, providing the installation of domestic natural gas service lines in the Perth’s southern suburbs.

The increased demand from a growing building industry created a need for growth and the requirement for excavation, trenching and under road boring equipment.

The Ditch Witch product was identified as our machine of choice and we soon found ourselves dealing with the people at Mole Engineering who were the local Ditch Witch distributers.

Not only were they able to supply the excavation equipment we required but also the whole package including a trenching machine with rock saw, the flex rod boring system, pierce arrow boring tools and a range of sub-site service locating packages.

This was the start of a relationship that has grown over the past 19 years and which has seen many changes for both companies as the infrastructure installation market in Western Australia has grown and developed into a multi-million dollar industry in a state that covers the equivalent of half the eastern states of Australia, but also has the most remote capital city in the world.

The relationship with Ditch Witch is a very personal one with many of each company’s employees having worked together since the purchase of our first machine 19 years ago.

In an industry that has seen many companies come and go with the boom and bust times that are associated with the construction industry, Ditch Witch has continued to provide the service that we need to keep moving forward in an era where technology is changing at a rate never seen by previous generations.

The evolution and growth of directional drilling in Australia and the preference by many customers for HDD to be their installation method over open trench excavation has seen our fleet grow from our original JT1720 to a broader range of machine sizes to try and meet our varying customer needs.

Our current fleet of HDD machines – all less than 18 months old includes:

* 2 x JT3020 All Terrain * 2 x JT2020 Mach 1 * 1 x JT922.

The variety of machine sizes ensures that we can meet all of our customer requirements from a simple road crossing to longer complex multiple conduit installations. Running a fleet of new machines ensures that our downtime is minimised and our machines are where they should be, on the job working.

The introduction of two JT3020 machines, complete with the All Terrain Rock Drilling System now ensures that we can accomplish any job, in any ground condition anywhere, providing our clients with a total project solution with no need to outsource work.

The majority of our current projects are all single conduit installations for both communication networks and underground power systems that range from 1,000 metres to 5,000 metres in length.

With a number of these types of projects in progress at any one time, having five drill rigs in-house makes installations of this size achievable within the customer’s timeframe without any need to bring in additional subcontractors.

Most projects of this nature have a wide variety of drilling requirements from simple 20 m road crossings, 100-150 m crossings under major roadways and rail lines to more complex 200 m crossings under rivers, waterways or swamplands with specific environmental issues.
