East Coast Utilities Limited (ECUL) is partly owned by Blackley Constructions of North Palmerston. Blackley Constructions as already familiar with the Tracto-Technik range of equipment, having owned and operated the Grundodrill 12G HDD rig for many years. Blackley was more than happy to recommend Tracto-Technik’s equipment due in part to their own experience of customer service, support and the known quality of the equipment supplied by TT Asia Pacific Pty Ltd.

The first bursting job commenced after the initial training in ECUL premises. The pipe to be burst was found to be completely blocked and had to be rodded before bursting could begin. During the excavation of the machine pit an 11,000 volt power cable was discovered in very close proximity to the host pipe. Communications cable and water services were also found on both sides of the host pipe. The use of the TT Strike Alert System meant that the job could still be undertaken with confidence.

Once the pits were completed and work commenced the job proceeded with ease. The depth of the pipe was between 1 and 1.2 metres in a mix of clay, silt and blue plug. The first 100 metre run was completed in less than two hours with the patented ‘Quick Lock Rods’ proving to be beneficial in relation to speed and efficiency.

The Grundoburst 800G operated well – under its capacity throughout the project, pulling a maximum of only 17 tonnes for the duration of the job. ECUL has since completed this project and is now carrying out larger and more demanding projects for Hasting District Council. ECUL is more than happy with both the performance of the Grundoburst 800G and the outstanding training and services provided by the team at TT Asia Pacific.
