The company has undertaken many projects for a variety of clients. BTB’s skill and experience in the field has seen them involved in an array of projects including pressure sewer pipelines, freeway and airport infrastructure projects, water and electrical installations, as well as BTB’s pipeline HDD operations in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Victoria.

A recently completed project for ’us’ and South East Water in Tynong, Garfield and Nar Nar Goon in Victoria was a great success. Using HDD, BTB installed a
16 kilometre reticulated sewer system in the area with minimal environmental impact. The project encompassed all aspects of a pressure sewer installation, including the fitting of air valves, scour valves, isolation valves and more. The project also involved three HDD rail bores that were quite complex due to limited area in which to set the drill up and the five metre depth that was required to cross the rail. The rail bores
were completed at night and all ran smoothly with the installation of a 325 mm steel sleeve for the sewer line to run through under the rail.

BTB has also recently been involved in the Mortlake Gas Pipeline for
AJ Lucas. Using BTB’s Ditch Witch 7020 and
4020 HDD drill rigs, the company was able to meet the client’s demands on time and without fuss installing 506 mm diameter steel gas mains. HDD was shown to be invaluable in its ability to install pipelines under roads, creeks and rivers with little disturbance in all ground conditions.

Another large project that BTB has recently been involved with is the construction of an underground rail pass at Springvale Road, Nunawading in Victoria for Downer EDI. Using HDD, BTB installed seven bores in a two metre window at staggered depths, many of the bores consisting of multiple conduits. The tough mud, stone ground conditions and interference in the area from many existing cables made it a challenging project. But with solid planning and the right equipment for the job, BTB was able to complete the work on time and to the customer’s satisfaction. BTB’s civil works crews were also involved on the project. Trenching in the confines of the rail corridor, BTB successfully installed 17 conduits in a 1.5 metre wide trench over 800 metres as per the client’s specifications. New signalling and power pits were also installed along the rail easement and demonstrated the knowledge and skill of BTB’s specialist open cut crews.

BTB has also installed multiple conduits at various locations on the West Gate Freeway Project in Victoria.

A boring future

BTB Australia has recently purchased a new 160 x 240 Universal Robbins HDD giving the company the capability to carry out larger diameter bores over longer distances in all varieties of ground conditions.

This new equipment will keep BTB at the forefront of HDD projects across the country giving further scope to meet the requirements of the larger diameter pipelines and crossings that are to be constructed over the next years on a variety of infrastructure projects.

These projects and more demonstrate BTB’s knowledge and skill in the HDD and civil construction industry. BTB looks forward to a bright future and hopes to grow and evolve with the industry.
