Gippsland Water has invited tenders for the construction of 3 km of 600 mm nominal diameter pipeline, as part of the Saline Waste Outfall Pipeline (SWOP) Replacement Project.
The SWOP is a dedicated wastewater system for the power industry, and is in the process of being replaced. The current pipeline disposes of ash waters from Yallourn Energy, Hazelwood Power, Loy Yang A and B power stations.
Ash water is a highly saline wastewater resulting from the use of low quality water to transport ash residue away from the power stations. These waste waters are then collected at Loy Yang. They are carefully monitored and pumped out to Bass Strait via the SWOP at McGauran’s Beach.
A copy of the specification may be obtained from either the Gippsland Water website or the Gippsland Water office, located in Traralgon.
