The contract, secured from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation, is for a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) project and is the first win for the joint venture.

“Our entrance into the Indian market fits with our strategy to aggressively pursue international growth opportunities. As a company, we look forward to growth on a global level,” said Insituform CEO and President Tom Rooney.

Scheduled to begin in October, the Insituform & SPML joint venture will rehabilitate 166 m of 1,150 mm (40 inch) sanitary sewer pipeline.

This contract marks SPML’s entrance in to the Trenchless Technology market. SPML is one of India’s leading engineering, construction and project management companies, focusing on the water and power sectors. SPML has already completed more than 200 projects in the water sector, undertaking lump sum turnkey projects for pipeline, pumping stations and treatment plants.

SPML Vice-Chairman S.C. Sethi described the contract with Insituform as “a new chapter for SPML.”

Insituform will continue to pursue work in India’s sewer pipeline rehabilitation market and will also expand into drinking water and culvert rehabilitation in the coming months.

The Indian water and wastewater market is worth more than $1 billion and is experiencing 15-20 per cent annual growth.

Insituform’s CIPP method rehabilitates deteriorating and damaged pipe with little to no digging, avoiding disruption to roads, sidewalks and residential property.
