It has been put to work on the Alliance Recycled Water Pipeline in Brisbane.

The borer is presently equipped with 60 m of 1,500 mm diameter Augers, a mixed ground disc cutter head, and various other cutting heads for different soils.

The first three bores of more than 50 m have been successfully completed within mm of the flat grade required. Soft clays were encountered to start with travelling into a silt stone for the balance of the bore. The disc cutting head made short work of the silt stone.

With the exclusive Quick-Trac™ System, the machine moves up and down track at fast speeds for connection to augers. Using dual rack and pinion Quick-Trac provides a push/pull force of up to 10,000 lbs at high speed.

The 60 – 1200 G2 uses four hydraulic rams for thrust when augering and pushing casing and develops up to 1,200,000 lbs thrust and a max torque of 129,158 ft lbs, through a five speed gear box.

Also included is Quick Split™ design which permits the machine to separate into sections for faster, easier lifts into and out of the pit.

The 60 – 1200 G2 Auger Borer has a working range of 12 inch – 60 inch (305 – 1,524 mm) casing diameter.

American Augers, an Astec company, offers Auger Borer models from 24 inch through to 72 inch diameter.
