ASTT New Zealand Councillor Steve Apeldoorn said a number of small rigs are engaged in the project, which has contributed to an increase in the number of rigs in the New Zealand market.

The first two phases of the project are complete, which involved the retrofit of the Huapai Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the construction of the pump station at Riverhead and main wastewater pipeline, connecting Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead to the wastewater pipeline at Whenuapai.

Phase 3 of the project, construction of the Kumeu-Huapai and Riverhead local wastewater reticulation began in August 2011, with first connections to the public wastewater system available from July 2012.

Availability of the public water system has been dependent on completion of the new SH16 bulk water supply main, which will be constructed along the old SH16 route.

The New Zealand Transport Agency has required Watercare to program its work to avoid serious traffic congestion while the new SH16 was constructed.

Watercare has now begun working on design, tendering and consenting for the new watermain, which is expected to be complete in December 2013.

When complete, the north western trunk sewer and pump stations will carry wastewater for treatment from Kumeu-Huapai Riverhead to either the Mangere or Rosedale wastewater treatment plants.
