Based on the far south coast of New South Wales, Marshnet Communications owners Gavin and Warren Marshall have been in business together for 7 years. Marshnet has owned and operated a JT1720 Mach 1 for four years and in July 2005 upgraded to the JT2020 Ditch Witch. January 2006 saw the company move from all areas of the civil construction industry to turning their focus solely to Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD).
In these four years Marshnet has successfully completed a wide range of projects ranging from 360 mm Water Mains under the Princes Highway for the Eurobodalla Shire Council, to installing Optic Fibre cable at the Murray 1 Power Station at Khancoban. This project involved drilling up and down slopes of up to 60 degrees and negotiating rugged terrain. Approximately 2 km of
50 mm conduit was installed with 700 m completed by HDD. Marshnet has also been involved with the Bega Valley Shire Council installing various sized water and sewer mains.
Recently, Marshnet was contacted by Ian Baker of Merimbula who owns and operates the Merimbula Airport. After consultation the company was given the go-ahead to install 2 x 110 mm electrical conduits under the airport’s runway and taxiway. The total distance of the bore was 160 m. Sand and a high water table were encountered on this particular bore, these types of conditions were easily overcome by mixing the correct additives to the drilling fluid.
Looking into the future, Marshnet intends to continue its work for Telstra along with expanding its field of work to the local councils to enable them to enhance their expertise in a number of different drilling areas.
