With the increase in demand of water for industrial and residential uses, insufficient water resources is a challenge that is becoming crucial for Taiwan. Besides building more reservoirs and dams, Taiwan’s Water Authority is planning to lower the losses through water leakage by rehabilitation of existing water mains.
A few projects have been successfully completed using CPT’s newly developed product, NordipipeTM, in Taiwan for pressurised potable water mains.
Recently the company has completed a challenging job in Kaoshiung, a city in Taiwan. A stretch of 885 metre 1,100 mm diameter water mains that supplies an industrial park of Kaoshiung was leaking due to ageing and corrosion. The authority has been seeking a solution to maintain their flow capacity to this important industrial area.

The jobsite featured hilly terrain and plots of paddy rice field. Conventional open-trench pipe replacement would require extension excavation that would adversely affect the livelihood of the farmers. In order to avoid possible public outcry and resolve the immediate issue of water loss, a trenchless rehabilitation solution seemed a possible option.
CPT’s recommendation of Nordipipe cured-in place process liner came as no surprise. With the tested and proven product that could take internal and external loadings, Nordipipe was accepted as the renewal solution for this project. Thanks to a short curing time the very tight schedule imposed by the authority was overcome.
Another challenge imposed on the project was the terrain of this particular jobsite. The pipeline has a steep gradient (average of 12 per cent), which puts additional strain on the liner itself during installation. A particular section that installed has a depth difference of over 13 metres and a total length of 262 metres. Nordipipe was able to overcome the strength and length concerns aptly.
This project affirmed the reliability of the product and gave the end-user confidence and interest in Trenchless Technologies. With proper selection of product and sound project management, challenging demands of the job at hand can be overcome. CPT is committed to offering comprehensive solutions to all future pipe rehabilitation needs.
