Representatives from the pipeline industry and council and government authorities turned out to see the Perma-Liner team demonstrate their system, which cures in place by ambient air temperature.
The demonstration took approximately thirty minutes, during which time a 6 m length of broken and failed pipe was relined. The Perma-Liner crew were on hand to explain the process step-by-step and answer any questions that arose during the demonstration.
The Perma-Liner system can be used for 50, 100, 225 and 300 mm diameter pipelines and negotiates 22, 45 and 90 degree bends. Virtually any pipe material can be lined. Cracked and broken pipes are lined with a PVC coated felt tube impregnated with a liquid resin, which is ‘pushed’ by a Perma-Verter air inversion unit – an air pressure – through the pipe sealing cracks and breaks while bonding with the host pipe, hardening to form a smooth, joinless concrete-like inner pipe with a minimum wall thickness of 3 mm.
The process allows pressure caps to be installed once the liner is inverted in the pipe, allowing it to cure while work can begin on another pipe – meaning several lateral lines can be rehabilitated per day, improving efficiency and reducing the costs of the operation.

Perma-Liner staff answered questions raised by attendees that were not covered during the demonstration.
The Perma-Liner crew believe they have brought the simplest, most cost effective and most efficient underground system available to Victoria. The system removes problems associated with old ‘dig and renew’ replacement methods for underground pipelines, which can be either impossible or extremely expensive and inconvenient.
All that is required to use this cured in place system in most cases is single access and an inspection opening to completely re-line a sewer or stormwater pipe.
Other services that will be provided through the Victorian Perma-Liner operations include: fully documented WinCan reporting and DVD/Video file CCTV pipeline inspection; pipe high pressure water jet cleaning; cured in place pipe point repairs (patching); explosion certified pipe CCTV inspection (Zone 0, 1 and 2); manhole and pit rehabilitation – no dig technology; water sealing and tanking; flexible manhole chimney seals; and limited access excavators.
