The system known as the Attommic uses high frequency vibrations via the drill rods to the drill bit – giving rapid penetration rates through virtually any formation: solid rock, fractured rock, clay, or sand. This is not sonic technology.

The Attommic can use any hole stabilising medium, including air, water, bentonite, or polymer, which gives it the ability to drill any formation quickly. There are no expensive and slow roller cone bits or reamers, and no expensive mud motors or pneumatic hammers to get stuck and twist off down hole.
Because the entire drill string is vibrating back and forth at over 100 times per second (100 Hz), friction is virtually eliminated. It is productive, being the fastest way through all formations, and uses the specially designed Sonde housing, which has consistently seen 4 - 5 per cent steering through a variety of formations. The on board computer will maintain steering until the operator overrides the system to drill straight.
Article continues below…The Attommic requires very little thrust pressure, eliminating the need to drive augers to hold the rig. To back-ream, simply remove the sonde housing and bit, attach the reamer and start reaming. There is no need for expensive back-reaming hammers or roller bit reamers with this system. There are no expensive compressors, or huge mud pumps required. Take the drill and a normal mud plant and drill any formation.
