30 kilometres of the new 32 inch steel magnetite concentrate pipeline will be lined using United Pipeline Systems’ Tite Liner system. Works on the lining project are expected to commence in April 2010 and be completed by the end of July 2010.
Citic Pacific Mining’s $US3.5 billion Sino Iron Ore Project is located at Cape Preston, 100 kilometres south west of Karratha in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. The largest planned magnetite project in Australia, the Sino Iron project has over two billion tonnes of identified ore and targets exports of more than 27.6 million tonnes of high grade iron ore concentrate and pellets each year over its estimated projected mine life of 25 years
The Tite Liner system being installed is a high-density polyethylene liner designed to resist the abrasion and corrosion of slurry pipelines in energy and mining applications. United Pipeline Systems is a division of Insituform Technologies.
Insituform’s Senior Vice President, Energy and Mining Dorwin Hawn said, “We applaud Sino Iron’s commitment to invest in a long-term solution to ensure the integrity of its pipelines over time.”
