Mr Medcalf has over 20 years' experience in tunnelling and underground construction.
Starting on the Channel Tunnel in the United Kingdom, Mr Medcalf has worked on some prestigious projects including the Jubilee Line extension on the London Underground, where he was responsible for construction under Pall Mall and under the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
On the Docklands Light Rail Extension under the River Thames, Mr Medcalf managed the installation of two EPBM drives under 3 bar of hydrostatic head with very little cover to the bed of the Thames.
At Trenchless Live Mr Medcalf will be speaking on the installation of a 4.5 km sewer pipe as part of the Bulimba Creek Trunk Sewer Project.Article continues below…
Construction started in March 2011 and microtunnelling was utilised to construct the new sewer, which also involved the excavation of deep entry and exit shafts. The new sewer pipe connects into the old sewer network at various locations and runs alongside the existing trunk sewer line, which follows Bulimba.
Mr Medcalf will be speaking on technical and environmental challenges to construction and obstacles that were overcome in the project.
