The acceptance of Underground Asset Services and Multiliner into the Australian market has been widespread with projects undertaken in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania during the last few months. Michael Gardner, Underground Asset Services managing director believes this acceptance has grown from a need for a credible alternate in a growing market.

“Relining has been associated with reduced flow capacity and insufficient conformity to the old pipe. The unique seamless construction of Multiliner eliminates such problems,” said Mr Gardner.

The relining market has also been concerned with structural integrity of late and with a flexural modulus in excess of 1,200,000 psi, Multiliner is one of the strongest liners on the market today.

Recent projects in Queensland for the Caboolture Shire Council involving relining of a range of pipe diameters from 150 mm through to 900 mm and for the Launceston City Council for a 900 mm egg shape pipe demonstrates the versatility of the Multiliner product and system. “Both these projects, especially the larger diameters, gave a one contractor option for our clients, saving on planning and project co-ordination costs,” said Mr Gardner.

Underground Asset Services has also introduced lateral repairs to its relining schedule of works. “Lateral relining is becoming an integral part of the reline process and we are pleased to provide our clients with a system that is purpose designed to reline laterals from the main line to distances of 20 metres up the lateral line,” said Mr Gardner.

Ease of installation is another important feature of Multiliner. Minimal disruption to customers, mostly householders, is a focus. The short installation time - typically less than six hours - minimises inconvenience to the householder and allows services to remain online at peak usage times.

“We are very conscious of the needs of householders and notification and liaison procedures are featured heavily in our management systems to achieve minimal disruption,” said Mr Gardner. “No mixing or handling of resin is required on site, a major benefit to our installation team, the public and the environment.”

Underground Asset Services compliments its relining operation with a range of additional services including CCTV pipe inspection surveys, combination drain cleaning, hydrostatic excavation, cable locations, leak detection, inline spot repairs, and manhole rehabilitation.
